Researchers' library service needs
During 2012, employees from various faculty libraries worked on the planning and implementation of a project with the overall aim of developing the libraries’ services to researchers at Lund University.
The project group consisted of librarians from six faculties and the University Library.
The aim of the project was to identify areas in which the libraries can develop and reinforce the services they offer, both at the general level and at the level of individual faculty libraries.
The project also included identifying skills which can be relevant in the future, both for researchers and library network staff, to reinforce the University brand as a research university.
The investigation consisted of:
- a survey of the libraries to map existing services,
- a survey of the literature of national and international studies of the same type, and
- focus group interviews with around 50 researchers at seven of the University’s faculties.
The results can briefly be described as the need for future researcher services to develop in close contact with the researchers and to be visible and accessible. The interviews reveal that the researchers at Lund University demand a structured working day in which they can easily come into contact with other researchers, where exchange of information and the creation of contacts can lead to added value in all phases of the research process.
During 2013 and 2014, work continued on the implementation and dissemination of the results, in Lund as well as nationally and internationally, through articles and presentations at conferences among other channels.
