The libraries at Lund University have the same lending conditions which involves using your LU card as a library card. Our library catalogue allows you to search for literature and manage your loans.

You can use LUBcat, our library catalogue, to search for literature and see where it is located. If it is kept in closed stacks or in off site storage you need to order it. If the book is already out on loan you can request it. You can also check your loans and in some cases extend them.

Lund University students and staff use their LU card as their library card. If you're a student, researcher or employee at Lund University you can create an account by logging in with your Student or Lucat account. You find a link for registration on the startpage of LUBcat. You need to activate your account before you can borrow books with your LU card. If you are a student you can activate your account when you have logged in, choosing both a user category and a home library. I you are a staff member you activate your account at one of our libraries. Please bring an id-card. By logging in and registering an account you agree to the Lending conditions at Lund university libraries.

Please register for a library account before you visit a library.

If you are a guest researcher or guest student you need to bring your letter of acceptance or other proof of affiliation with Lund university in order to get your library card or to activate your LU card for borrowing books.

Even if you are neither a student nor staff you are still welcome to use the libraries and borrow books. You need to have turned 18 and be resident in Sweden. Please, visit one of our libraries for a library card.
If you do not have a Swedish personal identification number (personnummer or samordningsnummer) and you are not affiliated with the university you must also submit a personal guarantee (PDF), in addition to a valid photo id. The personal guarantee needs to be signed by a Swedish resident older than 18 and this person also needs to accompany you to the library when you apply for your library card. This person cannot be an employee at any of the libraries.

A valid document for lending purposes is a LU card or a library card issued by the libraries at Lund University. This must be shown every time you wish to borrow books. When you submit your application for your library account you agree to comply with our lending conditions. The terms and conditions are established by the library board and are approved by the University’s legal unit.

A valid photo id may in exceptional cases be used to borrow books.

Rules for what may be borrowed and for how long vary between the libraries. Usually reference books, journals, special collections, and older printed books may only be read on site.

Books can be returned at all libraries at Lund University. Some libraries, for exemple the University Library (UB), have a book drop box where you can return your books. You can also return books by ordinary mail. You find the adress at the library webpage.

Please note that overdue fines are generated for chargeable material that is returned late.
