Methods and tools for evaluation

During 2014 a cooperation project was carried out between the university libraries in Gothenburg and Lund and an upper secondary school library in Mölnlycke, with the aim of developing methods and tools for the evaluation of the libraries’ teaching within the field of information literacy.

The project Methods and tools for the evaluation of courses in information literacy is a collaboration between Gothenburg University Library, Lund University Libraries and the library at Hulebäck upper secondary school (Mölnlycke) carried out in 2014. It was funded by the National Library of Sweden.

Methods

The project reviewed the international research literature on evaluation and compiled a summary of various methods and tools which can be used to evaluate teaching initiatives within information literacy.

Subsequently, a selection of evaluation tools were tested at the libraries in Gothenburg, Lund and Mölnlycke. The experiences from the tests of the tools were integrated with the compilation from the literature study into what is the main outcome of the project, the Toolbox.

Results

The Toolbox provides examples of how and when one can use a number of different methods and tools. It also includes tips for further reading.

The project has been presented at a number of national and international conferences.
