Reading and writing support

Do you have reading impairment which makes it hard to read printed material? If so, you can get help in obtaining required reading as talking books. You can also install different kinds of assistive software on your computer. Many of the computers om campus are equipped with the same assistive software.

Talking books

If you require talking books or other adapted literature, you can get an account with MTM, the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media. They have over 100 000 talking books in their catalogue Legimus, including many textbooks. With an account you can download talking books to your computer or stream them to your cell phone.

In order to obtain an account and more information on help and support, contact your subject library. The librarian will register you in MTM’s digital library and give you an introduction to the downloading procedure. You will also get help to download the books and support with technical questions or other problems.

Assistive software

Students and staff can install the following software on your computer:

  • TorTalk is a text-to-speech software.
  • Easy Reader is a software for reading talking books.
  • Stava Rex is a spellcheck program for Swedish.
  • Spell Right is a spellcheck program for English.

In the Talking books guide (mainly in Swedish) you’ll find information about how to download, install and use assistive software.
