PlanS – transform or perish?

As we are getting closer to 2021 and the planned implementation of Plan S, the demands made by cOAlition S in 2018 are becoming more difficult for all stakeholders within the scholarly communication to ignore. The goal of Plan S is to “make full and immediate Open Access a reality”. This requires a substantial shift in business models for the majority of commercial publishers and for scholarly societies who sustain their activities through subscription income. Library consortias and large-scale publishers have started to shift their strategies towards Read & Publish agreements. But will these agreements be enough to meet the demands of Plan S?

LundOnline 2020 will focus on perceived changes in the Nordic scholarly communication landscape brought about by the implementation of Plan S.

  • Will the Read & Publish agreements of today be enough to achieve transformation according to the goals of cOAlition S?
  • What role should the funding agencies play in changing the current business models?
  • How can publishers accommodate to different funder requirements and still run a sustainable business?
  • Which will the consequences be for the researchers’ publishing strategies?

LundOnline will be a unique opportunity for concerned stakeholders to meet, discuss and present their views on current challenges. We bring together publishers, researchers, funding agencies and libraries to discuss obstacles and opportunities to achieve greater openness in research.

Come join us in Lund to participate in the discussion about the future of scientific publishing!
