Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports (test via NIAS)

25 jan - 24 feb

FBIS contains significant, critical material unavailable from any other source, such as newspaper, short-wave, radio, and television broadcast texts.  FBIS was established by Presidential directive in 1941 in the U.S. and authorized to record, translate, and analyze foreign radio broadcasts. FBIS central office would receive daily reports from the global field offices and compile them into a cumulative daily issue. In the 50s and 60s the Daily Report had grown increasingly large and in from 1974 was segmented into 8 geographical regions with its own Daily Report. Region 3 covers the People’s Republic of China.

We have access to the whole of FBIS Daily Report from 1941-1974 and FBIS Daily Reports 1974-1996.

Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) (test via NIAS)

25 jan - 24 feb

JPRS was established in 1957 and acting as a unit within the Central Intelligence Agency prepared translations for the use of U.S. Government officials, various agencies and the research and industrial communities. During the Cold War, the reports were primarily translations rather than analysis or commentary, with an emphasis on scientific and technical topics. Over time, however, that scope expanded to cover environmental concerns, world health issues, nuclear proliferation, and more.

With more than 130,000 reports the Readex digital edition of Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) Reports, 1957-1995, features English translations of foreign-language monographs, reports, serials, journal and newspaper articles, and radio and television broadcasts from regions throughout the world, with an emphasis on communist and developing countries. These reports, some of which are quite rare, are ideal for researching military, socioeconomic, political, environmental, scientific and technical issues and events.
Unlike the FBIS Daily Reports, the JPRS Reports were not published on a regular schedule.
