United Nations Day

2008-10-23

Lund University will mark the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter on 24 October 1945 by celebrating the United Nations Day. This year, 2008, Lund University will arrange a high-profile seminar to discuss i) UN Millennium Development Goals and ii) the role of universities to achieve the MDGs. The seminar is expected to outline an assessment of the MDG track record to date and planned future actions. Are the MDGs on track? What part of recent progress in fighting poverty can be attributed to the MDGs? Do the goals serve as inspiration for poor nations to mobilise efforts, or do they constitute yet another yardstick on which to measure the “failure of Africa”? What is the role of Universities? What obstacles exist for universities in developing countries and in developed countries? The seminar will be open for students and staff. Lund University is a member of the global university network Universitas 21, which currently have the MDGs as a priority issue. The network will participate at the seminar. The seminar is open to the whole university – students, teachers, researchers and administrative staff. Date: 24 October 2008 Time: 12:30-16:30 (tent.) Place: Palaestra, Lund
