FAQ My Course Library

  1. I have built a new course library, but I can’t find it in the list!
When you build a new course library you should be careful to place it under the correct faculty/section. If you can’t find your new course library, you may search under “All". If you have inadvertently placed your course library under the wrong faculty, you may change faculty in “Edit course library" from the administrator’s interface.

  2. How do I link to an e-book?
You link in different ways depending on whether you have found the e-book in Lovisa or in Summon. Contact your subject library or mittkursbibl@remove-this-part.lub.lu.se for support.

  3. I would like to start using My Course Library. What do I need to do to become an administrator?

When you upload your own files to a course library you also decide who will have access to the files by choosing “All" or “Only registered students" in the field for “Access". The option “All" means that the file will be accessible to all who visit the course library. The option “Only registered students" means that you place the file under access control and the students who are registered to your course will have access to the file by means of their StiL-identities. For this too work, you will also have to write the course code in the appropriate field under “Edit course library". If you need help, you may contact your subject library or mittkursbibl@remove-this-part.lub.lu.se.

    • While upgrading a course library, I accidentally deleted a block. Can it be restored?
My Course library does not include a function for restoring blocks. You will have to restore the block yourself, adding the deleted links once again. This is why it is important always to check carefully that you haven't inadvertently checked one of the boxes Ta bort? before saving your changes.

The option “All" means that the file will be accessible to all who visit the course library. The option “Only registered students" means that you place the file under access control and the students who are registered to your course will have access to the file by means of their StiL-identities. For this too work, you will also have to write the course code in the appropriate field under “Edit course library". • I want to upload a PowerPoint presentation I use in class. Will it be accessible to everybody in the entire world?
When you upload your own files to a course library you also decide who will have access to the files by choosing “All" or “Only registered students" in the field for “Access". The option “All" means that the file will be accessible to all who visit the course library. The option “Only registered students" means that you place the file under access control and the students who are registered to your course will have access to the file by means of their StiL-identities. For this too work, you will also have to write the course code in the appropriate field under “Edit course library". If you need help, you may contact your subject library or mittkursbib@lub.lu.se.

    • Is it possible to upload all file types to My Course Library?
Yes. However, you may want to consider the fact that a video or a high definition image will be difficult to access for students who don’t have broadband connection to Internet. You may also want to consider that not all students have Microsoft Office installed on their home computers which will mean that they won’t be able to open Word or PowerPoint files (unless they install a viewer). This is why it is always a good idea to convert files to PDF before uploading them to a course library.

    • Can I scan a text or an image and upload the file to My Course Library?
Yes, provided that the material is your own. If you want to scan somebody else’s work you will have to ask permission. If you need help, you may contact your subject library or mittkursbibl@remove-this-part.lub.lu.se. You will also find a short guide at www.lub.lu.se/....
