Library card

You need a library card to borrow items at Lund University Libraries. You need the library card to borrow or request items, to place holds on items on loan and to renew your loans. You are personally responsible for all items issued against your library card, so treat it as a valuable document.

Get a library card

Everyone who has a Swedish personal identity number, is a resident of Sweden and is over the age of 18, can be issued a library card on a personal visit to one of the LUB libraries. A valid photo ID must be presented.

Guest students or guest researchers

If you do not have a Swedish personal identity number, but is accepted as a guest student or a guest researcher at Lund University, you can be issued a library card on showing a valid photo ID and a letter of acceptance or affirmation of affiliation with a department at Lund University.

No Swedish personal identity number and not a guest student or researcher

If you do not have a Swedish personal identity number, and you are not a student or a researcher at Lund University, you must hand in a personal guarantee on a specific form in order to be issued a library card. The person who acts as guarantor must be employed, reside in Sweden and be over the age of 18. The guarantor must be present when the library card is issued and must show a valid photo ID.

Distance student

If you are a distance student and cannot visit our libraries, contact your LUB subject library in order to be issued a library card. Read more under Loans for distance students.

Web form for library card application

Fill in your personal data in our web form. Go to the issue desk at one of the LUB libraries with your photo ID.

Library card number and PIN code.

On the back of the library card, you will find your library card number, 14 digits, that you use when you wish to request or place holds on items in the library catalogue Lovisa. Log in to Lovisa under Your Loans if you wish to renew your loans. Use your library card number and your personal identity number (10 digits, no hyphen), which will serve as your PIN code. 

Persons without Swedish personal identity numbers

If you do not have a Swedish personal identity number, your PIN code consists of your birth date plus your initials, according to the following pattern: YYMMDDII, for example 741012JH.

Email and change of address

Register an email address in you borrower record in order to receive reminders and information about reserved items that are ready for you to collect. You are responsible for informing LUB of your current address, and you can add an email address or change address in Lovisa under Your Loans.

Lost library card

If you loose your library card, please report this to one of the LUB libraries immediately. You are responsible for all items issued against the library card until the loss has been reported and the card blocked. A replacement card is issued at a fee of 25 SEK.
